This was the first track laid down for the album and it was before I hit on the dragon concept, being instead about some Lovecraftian horror.
But at the same time I loved how it turned out, and in the end it wasn't too hard to fix it up into the ongoing storyline for the second half of the album.
The pipe organ section and chanting at the end is probably my favourite part, but it's a song concept I've wanted to try and do for years.
lyrics
The Dark Bible
The Dark Bible
This evil book is steeped in sin
Such dreadful horrors dwell within
Each chapter and verse
Keeps on getting worse
Therein
For safety’s sake it’s not allowed
To read these dreadful words out loud
Striking readers blind
Shattering the mind
Be proud
The Dark Bible
To stop things getting out of hand
This tome of evil has been banned
Driving men to sin
Slaying kith and kin
As planned
Such words of darkness from the Pit
Abominations have been writ
Words that can destroy
Those who seek to toy
With it
