Of all things, this was inspired by finding a pair of dragonskin bracers in a certain action roleplaying game and immediately thinking "But I am a dragon... Aren't I?" for no satisfactory reason.
It does very much echo what I did with Demonhunter, but the idea of someone discovering - or becoming - the thing they set out to slay is a favourite of mine.
I believe this was the second track laid down for the album, and the first to feature the transistor organ and guitar.
lyrics
Do You Want To Be A Dragon?
Stealing upon my way
Seeking the beast to slay
Wakes hidden memories
Somehow it just seems... wrong?
Take your sword and risk your skin to do the evil dragon in
...But I am a dragon... aren’t I...?
Hiss like a thousand snakes
Swiftly the beast awakes
Roaring with laughter
What will come after?
HEY!
Here’s a pretty dragonskin to wrap the dragon hunter in
...But I am a dragon... aren’t I...?
Don’t you want to be a dragon?
Help Help Help Help
It has begun – I feel the change upon me
And now it’s done – What will become of old me?
What will they say? My family will all mourn
The price to pay – Dragons are made, they’re not born
Marvel at my long tail – Gleaming from every scale
Gold I’ve amounted, scarce to be counted
MINE
There’s no shame in giving in, so come and join the dragon kin
BUT I AM A DRAGON... AREN’T I?
Do you want to be a dragon?
DO you want to be a dragon?
Do YOU want to be a dragon?
Do you WANT to be a dragon?
Do you want to be a DRAGON?!
